How Successful are Wireless Emergency Alerts for Amber Alerts?

The head of the Missing Children Division of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) makes no bones about it. Bob Hoever says the national cell broadcast system, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), has become a “very powerful tool” for Amber Alerts. Hoever says NCMEC can credit WEA directly for helping rescue and return 13 — that’s right, 13 — missing and endangered children.

How do Wireless Emergency Alerts help locate missing children?

Hoever says WEA does a lot of Amber Alerts. He says it provides geo-targeted messages as quickly as possible, reaching as many people as possible.

Where can I find more information on WEA and Amber Alerts?
